Project WATCH has been working to decrease tobacco industry influence in Minnesota since 2011. The program is funded through a grant from ClearWay Minnesota and a grant from the Minnesota Department of Health.
Efforts focus on: identifying and tracking tobacco marketing tactics, educating city, county, and school decision makers about tobacco control best practices and providing technical assistance to tobacco control partners.
During 2011, Project WATCH collected 561 tobacco industry direct mail marketing pieces, over 500 screen shots from tobacco industry websites, and 664 tobacco industry emails. This information was presented locally and nationally through in-person presentations and webinars, and a blog.
Project WATCH produces a regular newsletter, the Tobacco Marketing Update.
